Today, I introduced Beowulf (PowerPoint). In addition to this, we discussed summary writing, conventions, and literary devices.
I handed out the following blue sheets:

"16 Common Errors"
"Stylistic Devices"

Please check your portfolios for these if you were absent. If they are not there, see me for a copy.

REMINDER: HAVE YOUR INDEPENDENT NOVEL IN CLASS FOR NEXT MONDAY.

Today, we did a timed journal on Chapters 10 & 11 of the novel, Lord of the Flies. I then discussed how people try to justify actions that they normally would believe to be wrong. The notes below are on this. It is called "cognitive dissonance. Fri. Dec. 15, 2017: Hamlet Act IV

Today, we finished reading Act III of Hamlet and then read up to Act IV, scene 4. We will start on page 107 on Tuesday. On Monday, you will have the Act III quiz and another Shakespearean reading to read actively. Be sure to read over the commentary in your Hamlet book in order to be prepared for the test.
